Thanks to the British coming to Huelva between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, several sports which were still new were brought to and started being practised in Spain. Games like football, tennis, or even cricket were played by both the foreign population working at the mining companies and locals during that time. Consequently, the so-called Huelva Recreation Club was founded in 1889 for the practice of different sports, especially football.
