Pedagogical Museum University of Huelva

The Pedagogical Museum of the University of Huelva is located in the Faculty of Education Sciences (El Carmen campus), at Av. de las Fuerzas Armadas, S/N.

Its permanent exhibition occupies three hundred square metres and includes three sections, dedicated to textbooks, teaching resources and educational scenarios.

The old school textbooks

The School Manuals section of the Museo Pedagógico de Huelva presents an exhibition of representative books from different historical periods, from 1776 to 1975. It also offers, telematically, certain aspects of interest in relation to school publications: gender issues, ideological aspects, books written by teachers and encyclopaedias.

The Teaching Resources section

The Educational Resources section of the Museum begins with a display of elements from the basic school kit and continues with a selection of teaching aids from different curricular areas: Reading and Writing, Drawing, Weights and Measures, Arithmetic, Geometry, Natural Sciences, Geography.

Taken together, the teaching resources on display provide a historical overview of the school and the means used for teaching.

Of particular importance is the collection of microscopes, which includes characteristic models from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Also worthy of note is the collection of audiovisual resources, which includes several 19th century devices, precursors of those that would later be used in educational centres throughout the 20th century: magic lanterns, stereoscopic viewers, slides, three-dimensional photographs make up a set of useful resources for understanding the evolution of audiovisual technology and its impact on subsequent historical periods.

The Education Resources Section

The Educational Resources section of the Pedagogical Museum of the University of Huelva also includes an interesting display of games related to different school subjects, as well as an illustrated reference to traditional rewards and punishments.

The Educational Scenarios section includes three scenographic reproductions: an old school for schoolgirls, a typical workplace for farmyard teachers and a period classroom, illustrating a broad period of 20th century school history. Plans and models complete this section.

The Pedagogical Museum also has a large collection of school photographs, which form part of the future School Photograph Library of the province.

It also has an excellent collection of documents related to the history of education in the province of Huelva, both originals and facsimile copies of documents from various archives.
